Millennial Pink, pt. 2

2020

The second part to the Millennial Pink collection of work, exploring the social construct of a shade of pink used to represent an entire generation, often marginalised and blamed for downfalls within society. Looking at the use of nostalgia to romanticise the past, as a form of escapism for the bleak present, viewing the past as unrealistically 'rosier'. Inspired by the ‘everyday’, the exploration and distortion of relatable household materials is a large aspect of this series of works. There is also a specific fascination of the photographs within a family photo album, and this transgenerational and universal practice of capturing ‘everyday’ moments, storing and preserving them as a record of a lifetime, irrelevant of whether or not they are an accurate archive.
