artist profile

Approaching the end of her final year, studying Fine Art at York St John University, Tilly Thornborrow is a material led, mixed media artist, currently exploring the family photo album, and what this sensitive and vast medium can translate, specifically from the viewpoint of a younger generation. Consciously working solely in tones of pink, as a response to ‘Millennial Pink’, a specific shade of pink which has dominated social media for the past few years. She is interested in the media’s portrayal of the generation which she defines herself as part of, and often uses this as motivation behind her art. Thornborrow is inspired by the ‘everyday’, exploring and distorting relatable household materials, with a specific fascination of the photographs within a family photo album, and this transgenerational and universal practice of capturing ‘everyday’ moments, storing and preserving them as a record of a lifetime.
